New Limits on Earnings After Superannuation Retirement

Effective April 2, 2012 superannuation retirees, who have been retired more than a year, will be allowed to earn additional wages when returning to work in a public position in Massachusetts.

Retirees will now be able to earn up to $15,000 in a calendar year above the salary currently being paid for the position from which he/she retired when added to his/her retirement allowance. The number of hours retirees are allowed to work in a public position in a calendar year will remain the same at 960 hours.

The office is closed today, March 1, 2012 due to the snow storm. We will reopen tomorrow, Friday, at 8:00 am.

Post Office Mix-up

On Tuesday, 2/28/12, we were informed of an error made by the Post Office regarding the towns of Buckland, Heath, Shelburne Falls and possibly other area towns. The mail has been delivered to incorrect towns and will be sent back to Springfield and processed again. We believe this may take between a few days and a week to clear up. Therefore, if you live in the area mentioned above and are expecting any mail from our office (including a retirement check or notice of deposit), you may receive it late.

We recommend direct deposit to all retirees currently receiving paper checks. Please call the office at 413-774-4837 to sign up for direct deposit.
